September 23rd marks the official end of summer, which is closer than we would probably like to accept. But with a month still left of summer, there is plenty of time left to enjoy the season. Philly provides several fun events each week that are sure to leave you with some memorable summer moments, and we at DIG would like to share some ideas with you.

Visit Spruce Street Harbor Park- In an effort to add life to the Delaware River Waterfront, the City of Philadelphia opened this pop-up park for the summer, and the crowd has been steady all summer long.  The park is open daily from 11:00 AM until 1:00 AM.  With enough features here to fill this whole blog, some of the highlights include a giant chess game, bocce, over 50 hammocks hanging under colorful lights, a floating beer garden (open weeknights until 11:00 PM, and 1:00 AM on weekends), and The Blue Anchor restaurant (open weeknights until 10:00 PM, and 11:00 PM on weekends).  This temporary park is now open until the end of September so hurry now before it’s gone!

Stop for ice cream at The Franklin Fountain-  this Old Fashioned ice cream shop serves up Philadelphia style ice cream in unique flavors like Green Tea as well as the classics like vanilla bean.  If you haven’t made it here at least one day this summer, you’ll want to stop in soon to enjoy your treat in the summer warmth.  Of course they are open all year, but there’s just something special about cooling off with some homemade Hydrox Cookie ice cream.

Get your produce at Headhouse Farmers Market- this market is located at 2nd and Lombard streets and features over 40 vendors who you can purchase local or nearly local products from.  With in-season produce being the most significant element at the market, you can also purchase plants, sausages, bread and much more.  The market is only open on Sundays from 10:00 AM-2:00 PM, but remains open through the fall season.  It’s not too late for some summer produce, though, so be sure to add it to your calendar for this weekend.

Watch a movie under the stars – You can still catch the last night of the Summer Movie Series at Penn’s Landing on Thursday, August 27.  Bring a blanket or lawn chair and find a spot in front of the big screen Penn’s Landing has set up.  The screening begins at dusk and there is no cost to attend.  The movie this night will be The Lego Movie, and before the screening there will be activities relative to the film.

Dine and drink near the Liberty Bell at Independence Beer Garden – come for some food and drinks and relax near a fire pit or enjoy a variety of games in the new beer garden near the Liberty Bell.  With a good variety of food and drinks, everyone will enjoy their time here.

Cheer on the Phillies at a home game- There are plenty of home games happening at Citizens Bank Park before the summer ends, and nothing really screams “summer” like an all-American ball game.  With tickets starting as low as $17, almost everyone can afford to see a game this summer.

Make the most of your summer while you still have time!  If you live near Philly, you are lucky enough to be provided with these fun options plus many restaurants with outdoor seating.  If Philly is too far for you, this blog on summer activities that covers every area is definitely something you cannot miss.  What plans do you have for the end of summer?  Share with us in the comments below!
